Flexibility, authenticity and cultural immersion are just three of the reasons Australians have embraced Eurail Passes, LATTE discovered on Thursday evening. Silvia Görlach, Sales & Marketing Manager, and Clarissa Mattos, Market Manager Pacific, North & South America, visiting from Eurail’s office in the Netherlands, with Ingrid Kocijan, Manager Australasia for Rail Europe, hosted a media cocktail evening at Café del Mar, Darling Harbour.Indeed, the Pacific region makes up 11.5% of all Eurail sales (third after North America and Asia), while Australian customers make up 10.3% of passengers (third again after the US and South Korea). Their travels are concentrated in Western Europe, with Germany the most travelled country. In 2015, Eurail welcomed four new countries to its Global Pass network – Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Poland and Serbia – expanding its offering to 28 countries with 35 partners offering some 250,000km of rail to discover. This year also saw the introduction of the introduction of a 1st Class option for the Youth Pass, a Family Concept that lets up to two children 11 years or under travel for free with at least one adult, a Global Pass with shorter validity (5 days in 10 days) and the addition of the Attica Pass, a new One Country Pass to the Greek Islands by ferry.Until 31 December, Eurail is offering 20% off its Global and Select Passes (valid for 1st and 2nd Class, and Youth, Adult and Saver Passes – travel must be completed by 1 April 2016) and a complimentary extra day for its Regional and One Country Passes (valid for 1st and 2nd Class, and Youth, Adult and Saver Passes – 6 months to start travelling). After its start in 1959, a symbol of European unity, Eurail has grown to host more than 300,000 passengers each year (as well as 200,000 on the European citizen-only Interrail network). Two years ago it launched its free Rail Planner App (the only totally offline planning app of its kind) and is already nearing 1 million downloads. Offering safe, reliable and frequent travel for international visitors, Eurail encourages travellers to embrace the journey, meet the locals and fellow travellers, and discover little-known places along the way.
