first_imgGardaí will carry out high visibility patrols and checkpoints across the roads this Bank Holiday weekend while some speed camera operators stage a strike.GoSafe camera van operators with SIPTU started a 72-hour work stoppage at 9am this Saturday morning. The industrial dispute centres on working conditions and union recognition. However, with less GoSafe cameras on the roads, Gardaí are warning motorists that they are redoubling speed checks this weekend to fill the gap. This weekend’s enforcement activities will specifically target and focus on off-peak hours between 10pm and 6am. Motorists are being warned not to drive under the influence of an intoxicant, while recent studies have shown that 75% of road fatalities were found to return positive toxicology results for alcohol.Chief Superintendent Paul Cleary said, “This bank holiday weekend we want to keep people safe on our roads. Gardaí will be out in force with high visibility patrols and checkpoints and we would be appealing to people not to drive under the influence of an intoxicant or in excess of the speed limit. “Our enforcement activity this weekend will be data driven and is based on research. We are working closely with our partners in the RSA to ensure people are safe.”Gardaí ramp up speed checks during GoSafe strike was last modified: October 26th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

first_imgThe EY 2017 Attractiveness Programme Africa, measures the FDI attractiveness of 46 African markets and moreover indicates that South Africa experienced an increase of 6.9% in FDI flows to the market in 2016. (Image:EY 2017 Attractiveness Programme Africa)Johannesburg, Monday 22 May 2017 – The South African Nation Brand continues to be the largest recipient of FDI on the African continent, and is the largest source of intra-regional investment – this is in addition to having recently made a comeback in the top 25 most attractive global investment destinations. This is according to findings from the EY Attractiveness Programme Africa 2017, the AT Kearney Foreign Direct Investment Confidence Index, as well as the Brand South Africa’s Investor Perceptions Research.Brand South Africa’s General Manager for Research – Dr Petrus de Kock says the findings on South Africa’s FDI profile underlines the fact that global investors have confidence in the market, and see the country as an attractive investment destination. “Opportunities identified in these respective indices should be vigorously pursued through a collaborative approach between business and government in South Africa – especially after the credit ratings downgrade,” adds Dr de Kock..Major findings from these indices are that South Africa attracted 20.6% of all FDI projects on the African continent in 2016 with an increase of 6.9% on 2015; the country is the 6th largest source of FDI in the African economy; and the diversified economy, geographical location, infrastructure (hard and soft) and logistical capabilities – play a major role in attracting investment, trade and related global economic activity.“South Africa continues to attract the bulk of FDI projects destined for the continent with a share of 20.6%, Egypt at 11.7%, Morocco at 12%, Nigeria at 7.5%, and Kenya at 5.9%. Notable in this regard is that EY indicates investment flows favoured Africa’s more diversified markets. This means South Africa’s economic profile and diversification remains a key attractiveness feature. The EY 2017 Attractiveness Programme Africa further notes that even as its economy remains under pressure, South Africa retains its appeal as a launchpad for growth across the continent,” said Dr de Kock. The EY 2017 Attractiveness Programme Africa, measures the FDI attractiveness of 46 African markets and moreover indicates that South Africa experienced an increase of 6.9% in FDI flows to the market in 2016. The sectors that dominated include: Consumer Products and Retail – projects more than doubled from 19 in 2015 to 41 in 2016.The 2017 A.T. Kearney Foreign Direct Investment Confidence Index is characterised by a perception of safety in developed markets – Europe in particular. However, the 2017 Index marked the emergence of newcomers UAE, New Zealand, and South Africa – a clear sign of slight increase in investment intentions in emerging markets according to Dr de Kock.“According to the AT Kearney FDI Confidence Index, South Africa GDP growth is expected to reach 0.8% in 2017 and double to 1.6% in 2018, A.T. Kearney notes that with the country’s improvements in infrastructure and education, investors view South Africa as being poised to lead one of the world’s next major manufacturing hubs,” concluded Dr de Kock.Follow the conversation on #SANationBrandlast_img read more

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest The new Heritage Cooperative location in Marysville is officially open for business. The $35 million Ag Campus will provide agricultural products and services to Heritage’s members and customers. The campus features dry and liquid fertilizer storage facilities along with a grain elevator.“The design of this plant was all about moving forward, just like the agriculture industry is doing,” said Eric Parthemore, Heritage Cooperative CEO and President. “Our co-op can trace its roots back to 100 years ago and our mission back then was to provide agricultural products and services to our member farmers in a manner that added value to their own enterprises and with all of the changes with farmers and our industry over the last century, our mission remains the same.”The new Marysville Heritage Co-op site encompasses 277 acres and was designed using the environmental concept of maximum practical avoidance as the facility was constructed around environmentally sensitive areas, including nine wetlands. The facilities boast computer automation in each building. These technological advancements will be used to maximize operator and facility efficiency.Heritage Cooperative has seen substantial growth throughout Ohio, even as the farm economy has faltered.“Our co-op is not owned by a hedge firm or by Wall Street stock holders, it’s really owned by the farmers and members of our company,” Parthemore said. “What we choose to do is to put money back into our communities, maintaining our relevance with farmers, upgrading our assets and maintaining our social responsibilities. By making these investments today, we will be more competitive tomorrow.”The new Marysville Heritage Cooperative campus has one of only two loop tracks in Ohio, with 11,700 feet of railroad tracks on siteIn addition to the modern efficiencies in the buildings, the outside of the Ag Campus includes one of only two CSX loop tracks in Ohio, allowing trains to make an entire circuit to load and unload grain, while maintaining rail traffic flow on the main tracks.“With this loop, we can actually receive trains from Columbus or from the north, so regardless of where the train originates we can get it on the loop and it can leave either way too,” said Heritage Cooperative’s Marysville Campus Manager Dave McIntosh. “It’s been a process learning how to run these locomotives. You see them on the track all the time, but until you’re actually moving one yourself it’s a whole other ballgame.”The more than two miles of railroad track will allow for higher train velocity through the facility with greater employee safety.A research farm is also being developed on Heritage Co-op’s Marysville Ag Campus and will include agronomic and seed test plots, as well as a conservation demonstration and educational site.View the photo gallery of the new Marysville Heritage Cooperative Ag Campuslast_img read more

first_imgWhy IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Tags:#Google#mobile#web What it Takes to Build a Highly Secure FinTech … Just over a year ago, we were excited to report on a new website for programmers. StackOverflow was the brainchild of coders/rockstars Joel Spolsky and Jeff Atwood, and it was a social Q&A channel that promised to give programmers solutions for even the most obscure bugs.Apparently, that approach to developer support was a solid one. These days, the site gets around 1.8 million unique visitors a month and has served as a prototype for white-label Q&A sites for companies, too. The site’s latest merit badge is an official nod from the Android team, which has announced StackOverflow as the official home of Android developer Q&A support.Android rep Roman Nurik wrote in a blog post, “We’re working with StackOverflow to improve developer support, especially for developers new to Android. In essence, the Android tag on Stack Overflow will become an official Android app development Q&A medium.”Nurik further noted that StackOverflow’s format was particularly helpful for beginners new to the Android platform. However, he did state, “It’s also important to point out that we don’t plan to change the android-developers group, so intermediate and expert users should still feel free to post there.”The StackOverflow “Digg for developers” model has worked well for all kinds of programmers, clearly. The models has also been successfully applied to such diverse topics as mathematics, parenting and even World of Warcraft – all built on the company’s StackExchange white-label platform.
