The industrial dispute centres on working conditions and union recognition. However, with less GoSafe cameras on the roads, Gardaí are warning motorists that they are redoubling speed checks this weekend to fill the gap. This weekend’s enforcement activities will specifically target and focus on off-peak hours between 10pm and 6am. Motorists are being warned not to drive under the influence of an intoxicant, while recent studies have shown that 75% of road fatalities were found to return positive toxicology results for alcohol.Chief Superintendent Paul Cleary said, “This bank holiday weekend we want to keep people safe on our roads. Gardaí will be out in force with high visibility patrols and checkpoints and we would be appealing to people not to drive under the influence of an intoxicant or in excess of the speed limit. “Our enforcement activity this weekend will be data driven and is based on research. We are working closely with our partners in the RSA to ensure people are safe.”Gardaí ramp up speed checks during GoSafe strike was last modified: October 26th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Johannesburg is a partner city in the initiative. The organisation is also working with the Indian and Australian governments on the development of similar solar projects in those countries. This announcement comes just ahead of the much-anticipated Copenhagen Climate Conference, which takes place in the Danish capital between 7 and 18 December 2009.The solar park would essentially be a huge solar energy installation that will tap one of South Africa’s most precious natural resources – its abundant sunshine. At the same time it would boost the country’s use of renewable power and, with more producers competing for business, may also result in reduced rates. This will be welcome news for hard-pressed consumers, who are dreading more electricity tariff hikes on the horizon.By embarking on more solar project South Africa would become a world leader in this field, said Magaziner.Adding extra powerSouth Africa derives most of its electricity from the burning of fossil fuels. Figures available on the website of the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Centre, a division of the US Department of Energy, reveal that in 2006 the country was the 13th worst carbon emitter on the planet, and the biggest culprit in Africa. In 2006 a staggering 88% of South Africa’s carbon emissions came from coal.Peters and Magaziner have indicated that the proposed park could add an initial 5 000 MW of power to the national grid. If survey and study data are positive, construction will begin around the end of 2010, with the facility coming online in 2012.While South Africa’s weather generally is conducive towards solar energy production, the North West province, with 300 days of sunshine annually, is the most likely location for the solar park.Much of the country receives, on average, over 2 500 hours of sunshine per year, according to the national energy department, with annual solar radiation levels ranging from 4 500 and 6 000 Wh/m2.Renewable energySouth Africa’s government strongly supports the concept of renewable energy and has set a target of 10 000GWh of energy to be produced from renewable energy sources – mainly biomass, wind, solar and hydro-electric on a smaller scale – by 2013.This is laid out in the white paper on renewable energy, which was approved by Cabinet in 2003. Achieving the target will bring considerable relief to the over-burdened national electricity utility Eskom, as well as bring in almost US$40.2-million (R300-million) revenue, and contribute to a cleaner environment because of reduced coal burning and water usage.Once the formalities are over, the solar park is expected to play a major role in reaching that target.Peters described the project as a sign of South Africa’s firm commitment to tackling climate change, adding that to sit back and do nothing about the global phenomenon is dangerous and that the solar park is the first of many initiatives.“Setting targets is important but all countries need to begin to act,” she said. Many opportunitiesThe country’s national energy regulator implemented a feed-in tariff system for wind energy in March 2009, becoming the first African country to do so and beating major developed countries such as the UK and US to the punch. The tariffs are guaranteed for 20 years. This means that both small- and large-scale producers of renewable energy may sell their energy to the power utility at prices above normal market level. Even householders may feed their excess renewable energy into the national grid, and be paid for it. This is aimed at encouraging wider production and use of renewable energy sources.Of the four categories of renewable energy, the other three being wind, small-scale hydro, and landfill gas, the tariff for concentrated solar power is the highest. The solar park would encourage independent power producers to set up shop in an area that is optimised for that particular industry, with infrastructure in place, support facilities available, shared generation licensing, and environmental impact studies already completed. It would create many jobs, said Magaziner, not only during the construction and later operation, but also through opportunities at nearby component manufacturing plants.last_img read more

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Andy Rodefer, Preble Co.We have made some progress, but it has still been pretty challenging in this area. We started planting on May 2 and planted until May 4. Then we ended up getting about 1.5 inches of rain on May 4 and it pounded stuff into the ground — something we definitely we did not need. We were out last week until Friday and we were able to plant beans. Then we planted corn on Saturday and Sunday. We got another .7 last night. Most people have gotten started around here but there are still some farmers around here who haven’t started planting yet. If you go north two miles and south 10 miles they have been missing the rains. We have been getting hit here pretty steady and field conditions have really not been ideal for planting, but the corn that we planted first is all up and it does look pretty good.On a normal year I would have been reluctant to plant in the conditions we have had, but we decided that we needed to run. Three or four weeks ago I had a neighbor plant into well drained fields and his corn only popped up a couple of days before our first corn. Those warmer soil temperatures have really helped. We are just over 50% done with corn. We may be 30% or 35% done with soybeans. The area is maybe at 40% or 50% done on corn and there are very few soybean acres planted around here. They are calling for an 80% chance of rain today and it looks like we may be right back where we were before with more chances for rain later in the week. We are anxious to get going again but it looks like this week could be another slow one for us. It has been frustrating. For the rest of the week’s reports, click here.last_img read more

first_imgDiscover how to create title templates in Premiere Pro to save time in post and create design consistency between projects!  In this post we share tips for creating unique title styles and saving them as templates in Premiere. So, you’ve gone out of your way to create that drop-dead gorgeous text that’s got the ‘wow factor’.  Now you’d like to use the same text style for a series of lower thirds for your project.  What are the options that will save you time in this project…and future Premiere Pro projects?Titles Created in Premiere Pro (check out this stylized and gaudy example!)Title Based on Current TitleIf you try to reuse a title in your timeline and make any changes, those changes will affect every instance of that title in the timeline, so in a way every title is a ‘one shot’ event. However, most editors require there to be continuity between titles in any production and with this in mind Premiere Pro has a simple button at the top of the title creation window that allows you to create a new title based on the current title.New Title Based on Current TitleYou can also get this option through the title option in the menu bar:New Title Based on Title MenuSelecting this option will bring up the new title naming box and create a new title icon in your project panel with the name you give it. The new title will look exactly the same as the old one, but any changes you make will be to the new title only leaving the old title unchanged. This is a fast way of making multiple titles that all use the same parameters for the text and formatting with ease.  However, unless you export the title it is restricted to your present project only.Creating a New Text StyleHowever, sometimes the title style you have created is so good that you want to use it in multiple ways…not just in the present project but potentially in many other projects. For this, it is wise to create a new ‘Title Style’ which will appear at the bottom of the title styles in your title creation window. The Title Styles PanelTo create a new style simple select the element that you want to use to create the style (in this case the text but it could be any item in the title such as a coloured bar under the text for a lower third) and then go to the panel menu for the title styles panel. Click the little icon in the top right of the panel ( a series of lines with a little down arrow to the left) and from the menu that appears select ‘New Style…’.Menu Options in the Title Styles Panel MenuOnce selected, a ‘New Style’ naming box will appear with details of the font that you used to create the style as a default name. At this point it is important to use a name that means something to you so that you know what it is and why you created it!Once you’ve named it and clicked OK, the new title style will appear at the bottom of the title styles panel and when you hover over it you will see the name you gave it.New Title Style With New NameOK, so now that you’ve created your style you are free to start having a look at how all the other title styles look in your project, knowing that with the click of a mouse you can return to the style you created and not lose anything. To try out them out simply click on any of the other title styles in the panel and see how your title looks. If it looks better but isn’t quite right, you can still go into the properties for the chosen style and tweak them to suit. In fact, using a title style is actually a great way to start creating titles as it gives you something creative to work on instead of trying to come up with something from scratch.Just a side note, you can also rearrange the order of the title styles in this panel simply by clicking on any style and dragging it to the place you want it to be. This can be very useful for organizing your titles into an order that you use in different projects.Moving a Style 1Moving a Style 2Creating a Title TemplateThe last approach to re-using titles in other projects is the option to create a template of your title, so that it can be opened from any project on your machine and have all the elements in place for something like a complex lower third ready to go.Example Lower ThirdSo let’s say that we want to use this example lower third in a whole series of episodes of a documentary series we’re working on (I know in reality no-one would touch a lower third like this, but for examples sake it will suffice!).  This is the way to make it a ‘Title Template’.You could go to the title option in the main menu bar and select ‘Templates…’ from that menu (note the keyboard shortcut).Title Menu OptionOr else you can click this button in the title creation window:Both will bring you to this templates dialogue box.If you don’t have your content loaded you won’t be able to see any of the templates that ship with Premiere Pro. However, that won’t stop us saving our present title as a template. What you need to do is click the little sideways pointing arrow icon in the top right of the window to get yet another menu:From this simply choose ‘Import Current Title as Template…’ and then you will get another dialogue box asking you to name your template.Naming the TemplateThen once you have used a good name that means something to you for the template – click OK and the template will appear at the top of the window under ‘User Templates’ and you will see it displayed as shown below.New Template AddedNow that you have this title as a template, to use it in a future project – create a new title, click the templates button and choose the template you have created and click OK. Then the template will be ready for you to modify as needed.  Using these techniques, Adobe Premiere Pro makes it easy to create and save high quality text templates, saving you time in post.  Happy title creation!last_img read more
