Lily Castle was 3-for-5 with a triple and a double, while Paige Leininger, Emma Weiner and Alyse Bell all had two runs batted in to lead Newman. Julia Merfeld was 4-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead the Lions. Newman is 14-2 and will travel to Central Springs tonight. WEST DES MOINES — The top-ranked 4A baseball team has had their season shut down by COVID-19. Dowling athletic officials confirmed on Wednesday that a member of the coaching staff had tested positive for the virus. The test initially came back negative, but Wednesday morning word was received that the test was actually positive. Dowling athletic director Tom Wilson released a statement saying that they were following Polk County health protocols and suspending play for all levels of Dowling baseball and softball effective immediately, and due to the timeframe, it makes it necessary to end the seasons of each team. Dowling had played a doubleheader against Ankeny on Tuesday night after being given approval to play due to the initial negative test result for the coach. CEDAR FALLS —- Northern Iowa men’s basketball coach Ben Jacobson says two of his players tested positive for COVID-19. Connor Wiemann had six runs batted in while the Mohawks stole six bases on their way to a 9-0 win in the opener. Mason City rallied from a two-run deficit in the seventh to tie it up and then beat the Dodgers 8-7 in eight innings. Connor Dalen had a three-run homer while Alex Deets had the game-winning hit. Ethen Roberts pitched three-and-two-thirds innings in relief to pick up the win for Mason City.
