The New Mastersounds & Turkuaz Share The Stage With Kofi Burbridge In Funky Florida Throwdown [Videos/Audio]

After a brief intermission, Leeds, UK-based funk outfit The New Mastersounds turned the heat up quickly opening with “Monday Meters” and then moved the crowd through a series of instrumental originals. During their set, the band invited special guest flautist Kofi Burbridge of the Tedeschi Trucks Band to lend a hand in covering “Confusion”, a tune written by American jazz guitarist Boogaloo Joe Jones. Featuring Eddie Roberts on guitar, Pete Shand on bass, Simon Allen on drums and Joe Tatton on keys, some of the other highlights of The New Mastersounds’ Fort Lauderdale set included “Summercamp”, “Vandy” and “The Minx”.Towards the later part of their set, The New Mastersounds welcomed out the Turkuaz horns for “Hey Fela!” before moving into “All Wrapped Up” with Turkuaz’s Greg Sanderson on tenor sax and special guest keyboardist Adam Scone from Mofro. The band then closed out their Thursday night performance with NMS classics “Baby Bouncer” and “Nervous,” prior to the encore.The grand finale of the show featured both bands teaming up as “The New MasTurkuaz,” playing “The Rules” to put an exclamation point on a stellar evening. “The Rules” was featured on the two bands’ Split 7″ EP album released last week, which saw each band record a cover of the other’s material. The groove heavy New Mastersounds / Turkuaz Tour made its way to Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, FL on Thursday night, October 20th – the first of a funky, three night weekend run through Florida.Nine piece Turkuaz, led by front man Dave Brandwein with backing vocalists Sammi Garett and Shira Elias, kicked the evening off in spectacular fashion and worked their way through a series of dance-heavy originals. The set also featured the group’s infectious Talking Heads cover “Slippery People”. The groove continued as the band broke into some of their more popular tracks including “Nightswimming”, “Coast To Coast”, “Everyone’s A Winner” and “Bubba Slide”, before ultimately closing their 75-minute set with a stirring rendition of the Dave Mason classic “Feelin’ Alright”.last_img read more

Kalibo imposes ‘stricter’ curfew to fight COVID-19

KALIBO PNP Personnel ofthe Kalibo municipal police station have started their 12-hour shifts to ensureits residents and establishments comply with Executive Order No. 31, which wasissued by Mayor Emerson Lachica. Kalibo policechief MajorBelshazzar Villanoche said the violators have been pressed with charges. KALIBO, Aklan –The stricter stance of Kalibo police in a bid to curb the outbreak of thecoronavirus disease 2019 resulted to the arrest of curfew violators in thiscapital town. He added thatthe police are convincing people to stay at home during the curfew hour as partof the community mitigation measures. The curfew hours will continue indefinitelyuntil further notice.center_img The 9 p.m. to 5a.m. curfew, which started on March 18, already caught nine people violating ithours after it was imposed. So far, norestrictions were imposed on essential chores during daytime such as healthappointments, restaurant and fast food pick-ups and grocery shopping. Businessproceeds as usual for banks, healthcare facilities, pharmacies, gas stations,shops, hardware stores and public markets since they have been permitted. “They shouldstay at home for their safety and only go out if necessary for emergencies orhealth-related reasons. The violators would be pursued aggressively in thecoming days,” he stressed. The curfewimposed forced local businesses; mainly the fast food chain, restaurants,malls, stores, and bars to close before 9 p.m. for the best interests of healthand general welfare of the residents.
