(REUTERS) – England have not picked uncapped all-rounder Jofra Archer in a preliminary 15-man World Cup squad but have named him in squads for the warm-up games against Pakistan and Ireland.Barbados-born Archer, who shone for Sussex last season and in Australia’s Big Bash Twenty20 competition for Hobart Hurricanes, is eligible for national selection under new England and Wales Cricket Board residency rules. The 24-year-old could get a World Cup call-up if he impresses in the warm-up games as changes can be made to the squad until May 23, seven days before their tournament opener against South Africa at The Oval. Joe Denly, whose last ODI appearance came in October 2009, retained his place in the World Cup group as a backup spinning all-rounder.Although, he could be among the pool of players, including Liam Plunkett and Tom Curran, who will feel the pressure if Archer performs well over the next few weeks.Archer’s ability to bowl at more than 90 miles per hour and his lower-order power-hitting skills have earned him a number of high-profile admirers, including England regulars Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler. “The selection panel has been impressed with Jofra Archer’s performances in domestic and franchise cricket. He is a very talented and exciting cricketer,” national selector Ed Smith said.England play Ireland in a one-dayer on May 3 before a five-match ODI series and a Twenty20 against Pakistan. “In line with ICC (International Cricket Council) regulations, we have to name a preliminary squad of 15 for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup before April 23,” Smith added.“However, all 17 players named in the ODIs against Pakistan can stake a claim to be in the final 15-man squad, to be finalised at the end of that series.” Fast bowler Chris Jordan, Archer’s Sussex team mate, could also make a comeback to the ODI setup against Pakistan, despite playing his last 50-overs game for England in September 2016.“Chris Jordan, a regular in IT20 squads over the past few years, has continued to develop as a cricketer – as we saw in the IT20s in the West Indies. He fully deserves his return to the ODI squad,” Smith said. “With regard to resting players, we are conscious of managing player workloads leading into such an important summer so that players are in the best possible condition for the World Cup. That was also a factor in the way we have selected these three squads.”England’s World Cup squad: Eoin Morgan (captain), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood. England squad for Pakistan ODI series: Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Chris Jordan, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood. England squad for Ireland ODI and Pakistan T20: Eoin Morgan, Jofra Archer, Sam Billings, Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Chris Jordan, Alex Hales, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, James Vince, David Willey, Mark Wood.
Newcastle, who haven’t won the FA Cup since 1955, host fellow Premier League club Watford in the fourth round.– Wednesday book Chelsea clash –In the night’s other third-round replays, Sheffield Wednesday booked a trip to holders Chelsea as the second-tier strugglers won 1-0 at League One side Luton.Wednesday are without a permanent manager while they wait for Steve Bruce to take charge on February 1.But the Championship outfit avoided an upset at Kenilworth Road against a Luton team who are chasing promotion after a 13-match unbeaten run.Atdhe Nuhiu won it for Wednesday when the striker’s effort was deflected past James Shea in the 46th minute.Luton came close to levelling with 13 minutes to go when James Collins diverted Sonny Bradley’s header on to a post.Bradley’s header was then nodded off the line by Nuhiu in the closing moments.Luton’s previous manager Nathan Jones recently left to take charge at Stoke, but his first home game in charge of the Championship side was ruined by third-tier Shrewsbury’s remarkable 3-2 win.Jones’ team appeared to be cruising after a first-half double from teenager Tyrese Campbell, the son of former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell. However, James Bolton netted 19 minutes left before Fejiri Okenabirhie equalised from the penalty spot in the 77th minute.Josh Laurent capped the stunning fightback when he struck in the 81st minute to earn a fourth-round home tie against Premier League side Wolves. London, United Kingdom | AFP | Newcastle survived an FA Cup scare at Blackburn as they blew a two-goal lead before hitting back to win 4-2 after extra time in Tuesday’s third-round replay.Rafael Benitez sent out an under-strength line-up featuring eight changes from Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat at Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday. The stand-ins made a fast start when Sean Longstaff scored his first goal for Newcastle. The 21-year-old found the net inside the first minute with a deflected strike from outside the penalty area.Callum Roberts, handed his first Newcastle appearance since January 2015, doubled their lead in the 22nd minute with his first goal for the club. But Blackburn pulled a goal back 12 minutes before half-time through former Newcastle forward Adam Armstrong. And Republic of Ireland international Darragh Lenihan equalised for Blackburn with a header in first-half stoppage time.It took extra time to settle the tie, with Blackburn’s Bradley Dack missing a golden chance before Joselu pounced to slot home in the 105th minute after Rovers goalkeeper David Raya spilled Fabian Schar’s drive.Blackburn complained in vain that Joselu was offside.Ayoze Perez completed Newcastle’s escape act moments later when he cut in from the right and fired home.“We went 2-0 up and then Blackburn did well, but we reacted so I’m pleased with the effort and the commitment of the players. The young players did well,” Benitez said.Yet injuries to defenders Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles will cast a shadow over the win for Benitez.“We need to wait tomorrow and see how they are, and if they cannot play then we will bring another one in,” Benitez said. The Palm Beach County School District voted Wednesday afternoon to fire former Spanish River Community High School Principal William Latson.Board members voted 5-2 to terminate Latson’s contract over comments he made to a parent in an email last July about the Holocaust. In the message, the former administrator wrote, “I can’t say the holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in a position to do so as a school district employee.”He had been reassigned to the district office during the investigation. The investigative report stated the district had “just cause” to fire Latson since he violated several district policies.Latson’s termination will take effect on November 21. He has until that date to file an appeal. The School Board also decided at its Wednesday meeting to sue e-cigarette maker Juul, in an effort to combat the youth vaping epidemic.According to officials with the District, schools are struggling to address the issue, and “have been forced to divert resources to monitoring and disciplining the rapidly growing number of students using vaping products on school grounds.”If a settlement is reached, 75 percent of the money would go to the District, while the other 25 percent would go to the law firms who are representing the District. The statement from the District adds, “The top priority of the School District of Palm Beach County is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Palm Beach County does not intend to stand by and allow this crisis to escalate further.”

As visitors from around the country and beyond descend on South Florida this week for the Super Bowl, doctors at one local hospital are implementing new guidelines in order to screen patients for the deadly Coronavirus. The flu-like illness originated in Wuhan, China. Cases have been confirmed in Australia, Germany, France, Canada, and the United States. There are no known cases in Florida.“We are on the side of caution in order to provide the best care for our community,” says Dr. S. Raymond Golish, who practices at Jupiter Medical Center. “Know there are no known cases here at this time, but we are prepared in the unlikely eventuality that such a case occurs.”He adds that the hospital is now following new CDC guidelines to conduct additional screenings for patients who display flu-like symptoms such as fever and coughing. Those patients will be asked to answer questions about their travels and contact with others during the previous two weeks. If doctors suspect the Coronavirus, those patients will then be placed in isolation and local health officials will be notified immediately.Dr. Golish says a sample would be sent to the CDC for testing. There is currently no antiviral treatment for the virus and no vaccine to prevent it.So far, there are more than 6,000 cases in China, and 132 deaths.
